Policy Lessons in Development: Small, Open Economies of Singapore and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates

This working paper focuses on how two small, open economies, Singapore and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have coped with globalization, information communication technology, knowledge-based economy, deregulation and competition. They have very different sets of conditions in terms of resource endowment and socio-political culture, but the two relatively successful states have navigated their strategies and policies to tackle the dynamics of globalization, constant competition and changes, which may draw lessons and food for thought for others.
