About the publication

The Institute of Southeast Asian Studies was founded in 1968 when the sense of region was only beginning to emerge. This history traces the thirty years of the Institute's existence from its early beginnings to its standing today as one of the best multi-disciplinary centres of Southeast Asian studies in the world. Through a wide range of activities, the Institute has endeavoured to enhance an awareness of Southeast Asia and foster a deeper and more critical knowledge of the area, both regionally and internationally.
The book documents the growth of ISEAS and how it continually seeks to redefine itself as a centre of excellence for both policy-relevant research and as an intellectual hub for scholars interested in Southeast Asia.
