About the publication

The rapid rise in the flow of capital across countries in the Asia-Pacific region in the early 1990s and the 1997 East Asian financial and currency crisis demonstrate how powerless a group of integrated economies could become in the midst of financial market meltdowns. This study examines eight capital markets in the Asia-Pacific region from their early development period (January 1977) to the period of the East Asian financial crisis (up to January 1998).
