Rajeswary Ampalavanar Brown, a Malaysian, was educated at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and at the SOAS University of London, where she received her Ph.D. in 1978. She is currently a member of the Economic History Department of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
